Biking and Walking
Walking is a healthy way to see the city and is great when you’re not in a hurry. On average, people walk a mile in twenty minutes, so make sure you leave yourself enough travel time.
Davis is the Bike Capital of the US! Biking is a wholesome approach to get from A to B and is a great medium by which to get to know your way around town. See the Bike Maintenance category for more information.
Buses
Unitrans is the UC Davis bus system, traveling all over Davis to and from campus. Buses also run to local junior high and high schools. Schedules change during finals and the summer months, so check the website for current running times; you can also find links to the bus routes on OneGate's Unitrans service.
YoloBus is an easy and cheap way to get to the close-but-not-close-enough-to-bike towns of Woodland and Sacramento, including the Sacramento airport.
Cars
Automobiles are a convenient way to travel around town. Residents of Davis will often need parking permits to park on the streets of Davis and apartment complexes usually issue permits to renters. Freshmen living on-campus usually are not permitted to have cars. There are many car dealerships in Davis on Chiles Road.

Tipsy Taxi is run by the ASUCD and provides safe transportation for UCD students around Davis on Friday and Saturday nights 10 PM – 2 AM for only $2 per person one-way. (530) 752-6666
Trains
Going home for the holidays but don’t have a ride? Amtrak trains run across the country. Direct lines that stop in Davis travel down California and up to Washington, across the US to Chicago, and through the Bay Area. Regular trains stop in Davis several times a day and travel from Sacramento to Oakland and San Jose, with stops in Fairfield, Martinez and other cities along the way.
