Davis currently has four major grocery stores where you can find eggs, milk, produce, laundry detergent, pet food, wine and liquor, paper towels and more; there are also a number of smaller stores and markets not listed here that sell specialized or price-conscious items. Want to shop at a place where the employees really care? Visit the Davis Food Co-Op, where all employees are part-owners! The co-op is natural-food oriented and sells organic produce and dairy products, recycled paper products, healthy candy, and other general supermarket items, including a deli, wine and beer, cheeses and olives, cosmetics, and coffees and teas and ethnic items. The Co-op also holds classes on wine-tasting and pairing, cooking and healthy eating.

Nugget Markets is an upscale grocery chain which carries more gourmet items than other grocery stores in the area. Though some gourmet items are pricier, when brand name products are compared between Nugget, Safeway and Save-Mart, 8 times out of 10 Nugget has the lowest prices. Nugget is so sure of this that it offers the Price Challenge: buy $100 worth of groceries, and if Nugget can’t offer you the same groceries for less, it will pay you double the difference plus $10.
