Election Fun: Election Night Party Ideas
The primaries started it all, the conventions made it official, the VPs have been picked and questioned, we sat through the debates and laughed at the SNL parodies, pondered the issues and watched confusing and frustrating commercials for different state propositions and city measures. Now it's finally happening: the election is coming to an end this Tuesday. What better way to celebrate than with a party?
We'll have our TV on all day tuned to election coverage, but most likely nothing exciting will happen until 7 PM on the East Coast when the polls start to close. So after work on Tuesday, gather your politically and not-so-politically minded friends (because hey, a party's a party) for your election night party, and consider these fun party ideas from around the internet:
~ About.com suggests a buffet with menu items from the candidates' home states: munch on deep dish pizza and three cheese nachos while drinking red, white & blue shooters.
~ Squidoo has extensive party game and decoration ideas - play Twister under the watchful gazes of Obama and McCain.
~ The Chicago Sun Times gathered the candidates' favorite foods: Barack Obama likes chili while John McCain prefers baby-back ribs and enchiladas.
~ In case you're up late awaiting results, the Daily Party Dish suggests having a breakfast buffet with breakfast casseroles, bagels and mimosas.
~ And if you'd rather watch election movies than follow the suspense, get some ideas from the LA Times' list of election movie winners and check in to see who won in the morning.
Of course, if you'd rather mingle with your fellow voters in a public place, you can always check Yelp for events going on in your area.
