Don't-Miss Activities for Kids at UC Davis’ Picnic Day

The 95th Annual Picnic Day will happen this Saturday, April 18, 2009 on the UC Davis Campus. If you’re having fun at Picnic Day with kids, here are some activities and exhibits you don’t want to miss; find more information in the Picnic Day official schedule (includes a campus map with parade route).

 

The Picnic Day Parade

The parade starts at 10:10 AM at the grandstands in front of Veihmeyer and Wickson Halls, makes its way around campus and through downtown Davis past Old City Hall on F Street. The parade is fun for kids and adults alike as various campus and city organizations, fire and police departments, and marching bands ride through the crowds on cars, trucks, bikes, trikes and unicycles, and floats. You may even get some free candy!

Chem 194 Magic Show

The Chemistry Magic show in Chem 194 fills up fast! There are shows at 10:30 and 11:30 AM and 1 and 1:30 PM. Get your tickets for morning shows starting at 10 AM and for afternoon shows starting at 12:30 PM in front of Chem 194 (limit two tickets per person).

Painting with Bugs

Adults might be a little squeamish but kids will love showing off their paintings created by maggots. Dip your bug in the paint, set it loose on the paper, and voila! You’ve got a masterpiece! Create your art at Briggs Hall 9 AM - 4 PM.

Petting Zoo

Get up close and personal with cows, goats, and other small livestock from 9:30 AM – 3 PM in the Cole Facility, Building A.

Reptiles, Arachnids, and Exotic Animals in Surge III

Snakes, spiders and kittens – it may sound like an odd mix, but be sure to visit the Surge Buildings between 9 AM and 4 PM (exhibit times vary) for extraordinary interactions with pets and animals of the unusual kind. Top it off with a peek at the UCD Feline Medicine Club’s showcase of cats and kittens, sure to soothe any ruffled feathers.

The Multicultural Children's Faire

Play games, get faces painted, run an obstacle course, and make crafts in and around Hart Hall between 10 AM and 5 PM (program times vary).

Make your own toys!

Make lava lamps and bouncy balls at the Aiche Kids Crafts area in front of Bainer Hall, 10 AM – 2 PM.
