Amgen Tour of California 2009: Stage 1 Results, Photos and Video
It was windy, wet and generally miserable weather, but that didn’t dampen the excitement as fans converged on Davis’ Central Park and downtown this past Sunday to watch the start of Stage 1 of the Amgen Tour of California. Davisites and others took to the web to recount the race:
UC Davis professor Jonathan Eisen posted a stream of photos he took on his blog, and a YouTube video of the race. Other viewers posted videos on YouTube of the cyclists starting the race in downtown Davis:
And as they left Davis along Russell Blvd for Winters, CA:
The California Aggie published an article praising the efforts of the 400 volunteers who helped the event run smoothly, including helping with parking, security and picking up trash (hey, someone's gotta do it!).
And seven time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong gave a behind-the-scene point of view on Twitter as he prepared for the race that morning.
Francisco Mancebo (Rock Racing) finished first in Santa Rosa at the end of Stage 1. For all results, see the results page on the Amgen Tour of California website; you can also watch the race live through the final stage on Sunday, February 22, 2009, when the tour will end in Escondido in San Diego County.
