7 Reasons to Live in Davis, CA

Davis, CA is a wonderful place to live, especially if you have a family. We’ve picked our seven favorite reasons to live in Davis:

1. The Davis Farmers Market

The Davis Farmers Market is a great representation of what Davis is about: supporting local businesses and healthy living. Buy locally grown produce and freshly baked bread, listen to live music, and see beautiful crafts year-round. It’s a great way to spend a Saturday morning!

Check out the Davis Farmers Market service for more info.

2. A Strong Sense of Community

You're guaranteed to run into at least a few people you know whenever you visit downtown or go to the Farmers Market on Saturday morning, and residents of Davis are so concerned with preserving their close-knit community that it can be difficult for big businesses to move in: longtime Davis community members like keeping things small, local and connected as much as possible.

3. Educational Opportunities

Davis is the second most educated city in the US, after Arlington, VA. The Davis Joint Unified School District is well known for providing excellent education for children, and for adults, there’s the Davis Adult School and the Davis Art Center if you simply want to learn a new hobby, or UC Davis and nearby Sac State if you’d like to get a university degree.

Check out the Education in Davis section on OneGate for 95616 for more information.

4. Biking Everywhere = Healthier Living

Davis is known as the Bike Capital of California (or the US, or the world, depending on whom you talk to). There are intersections in Davis that have a special light just for cyclists to get through, and anywhere you walk around town you’re bound to find a bike rack nearby. Davis also has a number of bike paths connecting different parts of town so it’s easy to get from one place to another via bicycle. All that biking is good for the environment and your health!

Check out Davis Bike Paths for more info and a video of a bike trip around Davis.

5. A Local Winery, Wine Shops, and Napa not much further

No need to drive far away to get your wine fix – Davis has its own winery and two other wine shops! Rominger West Winery supports local businesses and is a proponent for sustainable practices, plus has great wines from Yolo County. If you want more variety check out Tucos Wine Market, Valley Wine Company or venture out to the wine country all around Davis: Napa and Sonoma are only an hour’s drive west, El Dorado and Amador Counties are an hour east, and Clarksburg is about an hour south.

Check out Rominger West Winery for location, hours and info, and Tucos Wine Market & Café under Great for a Date.

6. Parks, Parks, and More Parks

There’s Central Park, Community Park, Slide Hill Park, Toad Hollow Dog Park, all the fields at UC Davis, the Arboretum and so many more parks and fields dotted around Davis. Bring your kids to the playground, take your dogs out for some exercise, or just go lie in the grass and have a picnic.
